This is likely to have been the site of the castle tower. A large number of tiles have been unearthed in a corner of the stone wall that had been destroyed, leading to the theory that the castle was abandoned after its stone wall had been removed for the construction of Shimabara Castle. However, some have also suggested that the stone wall was not removed when Shimabara Castle was built.
