The Hayasaki basaltic formations are the remains of an underwater volcanic eruption that took place around 4.3 million years ago. The development of Shimabara Peninsula is believed to have originated at Hayasaki. These formations can be found near the Sezumezaki Lighthouse and near Minami-odomari.
