This artificial reservoir was constructed in the late 16th century to store rainwater based on an idea conceptualized by Noda Shinzaemon. At the top of the 90m-high Noroshi-yama beside the reservoir, you can find beacons capable of sending smoke signals that had served as a means to communicate information about foreign enemies to the Dazaifu during the Heian period.
