Sezumezaki Lighthouse

Nature
This lighthouse is located at the southern tip of Shimabara Peninsula. Straddling the 5km-wide Hayasakiseto Strait and facing the Amakusa Shimoshima island, the lighthouse ensures navigational safety by marking the entrance to the Ariake Sea. The Hayasakiseto Strait is the entrance to the Ariake Sea and the site of one of the three greatest tidal currents in Japan. During the tides from March to June, you can see the formation of magnificent whirlpools with diameters of around 20m. The Sezumezaki Lighthouse offers stunning views of Tachibana Bay at sunset as the sea sparkles beneath the setting sun, creating an atmosphere that will gently captivate you.
